Evan Ajuria, a local Bay Area senior at Carlmont High School in Belmont, CA, is putting the grind in Grindstone and is already leading by example. He has proven that if you have an idea, a vision and take action, anything is possible. Grindstone, a student job app, launched in September 2019 with over 100 high schoolers that created their profiles on the app.<\/p>\n
All students downloaded the app, eager to gain experience and make a difference in their community.<\/p>\n
Generation Z is definitely taking action into their own hands and restructuring the current situation towards a better future.<\/p>\n
At the bright age of 17, Ajuria’s entrepreneurial vision stemmed 5 years ago from his passion for photography and web design. A local art gallery director offered to pay him to do photography and from that opportunity, Ajuria was able to market himself as a wedding and event photographer. Ajuria quickly realized that doing gigs worked out great with his student schedule.<\/p>\n

He noticed that most jobs posted on Next Door and Facebook did not really focus on teens so that is when the idea of a student job app, Grindstone evolved. Ajuria said, “I thought I might as well create some kind of platform to connect the adults posting these job opportunities with the motivated high schoolers who are looking for the opportunity and bring them together in one place.†Adults can simply download the app, post a job, internship, gig or volunteer service. A high schooler can either apply on the post or message the adult that posted directly.<\/p>\n

When asked where he envisioned Grindstone in the future, he said, “Although it is currently local, the goal is to go nation-wide for all high schoolers to go seek opportunities. The resource is here now it’s all about getting the word out, especially right now for summer.â€<\/p>\n
