For nearly 30 years, the Hammer Theatre Center has been part of San Jose’s cultural and performing arts scene. Originally opened in 1997 as the home of the San Jose Repertory Theatre Company, the venue has gone through changes in ownership, management, and operations. Today, San Jose State University operates the theater under an agreement with the City of San Jose. From hosting film festivals and live performances to adapting during the pandemic with livestreaming technology, the Hammer Theatre continues to serve as a venue for arts and cultural events.
