As FIFA festivities bring visitors from around the world to San José, two artists are helping make the city even more vibrant through large-scale public art installations. San José State University professor Esteban Garcia Bravo teamed up with his students to create the massive Buckyball, a giant soccer ball sculpture that has quickly become a favorite photo destination at San Pedro Square. Along with four additional sculptures on display, the project celebrates creativity, teamwork, and community spirit. Visitors from across the globe, including soccer fans from Jordan, are stopping to admire the artwork while enjoying the excitement surrounding FIFA events in the city. At night, the Buckyball comes alive as colorful projections transform the sculpture into a dazzling visual experience. Meanwhile, at the Circle of Palms, Bay Area artist Brooke has unveiled the Gaiascope, a massive interactive installation months in the making. The immersive artwork invites residents and visitors to engage with the piece and create their own memorable experiences. 📍 Esteban Garcia Bravo’s sculptures will remain on display at San Pedro Square throughout the FIFA events. 📍 Brooke’s Gaiascope installation will be on display through August 18th.
