La Bola Negra, the dramatic and historic feature from Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi — known as Los Javis — explores queer history, identity, desire, repression, and the stories that were hidden for generations. Inspired by the unfinished work of legendary Spanish poet and playwright Federico García Lorca, the film connects three timelines — 1932, 1937, and 2017 — to explore love, homophobia, political repression, family secrets, and the lasting impact of erased queer histories. For Los Javis, La Bola Negra is also about representation — connecting LGBTQ+ experiences from Spain’s past with a new generation today. la Bola Negra will represent Spain in the next Oscars. Penelope Cruz and Glen Close joined Los Javis. In this story, we hear from Los Javis about the film and Lorca’s influence, and meet Maria Lopez, a visitor from Spain who unexpectedly had the opportunity to experience the film in the Bay Area. It’s also a reminder of the beauty of film festivals: bringing people, cultures, and stories together to create unforgettable experiences. 🎬 La Bola Negra 📅 Select theaters: October 22, 2026 📺 Netflix U.S. & Canada: December 2, 2026
