One of the most iconic classical ballets returns to the stage. Giselle, first performed in 1841, tells the tragic story of a young peasant girl who dies of a broken heart after discovering her lover’s betrayal—only to return as a spirit seeking justice. We visited New Ballet in San Jose for an inside look at rehearsals as dancers prepare for opening night. Mikey takes on the demanding role of Albrecht for the first time, a character pushed to the edge—dancing nearly to death. The ballet is known for its emotional depth, especially during the powerful “Mad Scene” in Act One, where Giselle loses her sanity. Dancers Dalaney Ewert and Stefana Seizovic alternate in the title role, each bringing their own interpretation to the character. After months of preparation since last September, the company is now in full rehearsal mode. 📍 Performances: May 16 & 17 📍 Location: Hammer Theatre, San Jose
