Throughout the year, the California Film Institute brings cinema to life across the Bay Area with screenings, festivals, and education programs. From the DocLands Documentary Film Festival in April to the renowned Mill Valley Film Festival in October, the organization continues to celebrate storytelling on screen—while also investing in the next generation through CAFILM Education programs. This year’s DocLands opened with American Pachuco: The Legend of Luis Valdez, directed by David Alvarado. The documentary explores the legacy of Luis Valdez—director of La Bamba and founder of El Teatro Campesino, a groundbreaking theater company created in 1965 to educate and mobilize farmworkers through performance. 🎬 Plus: year-round screenings in San Rafael and Mill Valley keep film culture alive beyond the festival circuit.
