It’s not the smell of garlic that’s drawing folks to South County, it’s the Poppy Jasper International Film Festival that’s attracting film makers from 40 countries and hundreds of festival goers who are in heaven sitting in a dark theater watching short films on a rainy Saturday afternoon. From designer handbags to weighty topics like breast cancer, Poppy Jasper features 350 films with something for everyone: Traven Rice is a breast cancer survivor whose film finds humor in a mastectomy and breast cancer. Now in it’s 20th year, Poppy Jasper, which is actually a type of rare orange colored stone found mostly in Morgan Hill… was created by Mattie Scariot, a Gilroy native who has a passion for the arts.
